Perry, the miniature donkey who served because the mannequin for the character Donkey in Shrek, has handed away on the age of 30.
In accordance with Palo Alto On-line, Perry was euthanized at his residence at Bol Park pasture on Thursday, January 2nd, after battling laminitis, a painful hoof illness. On the time of his passing, he was within the firm of his longtime donkey buddies, April and Buddy.
“By way of the evening they have been shifting up, nosing in, understanding that he was gone. They grieved,” Jenny Kiratli, Perry’s handler, advised Palo Alto On-line of April’s and Buddy’s response to their pal’s passing.
Perry had resided at Bol Park in Palo Alto since 1997. Because the story goes, one of many unique animators from Shrek lived close to the pasture and used Perry because the mannequin for the Donkey character famously voiced by Eddie Murphy within the franchise.
In June 2025, Palo Alto Mayor Greer Stone and different native dignitaries gathered at Bol Park to have fun Perry’s thirtieth birthday. Additionally they contributed $10,000 to the donkey’s medical prices.
A brand new Shrek film, that includes the return of Murphy, Mike Myers, and Cameron Diaz, is about to hit theaters on July 1st, 2026.
