Colombia selects Simón Mesa Soto’s ‘A Poet’ for Oscars

Colombia’s choice committee has named Cannes Un Sure Regard jury prize-winner A Poet as this season’s Oscar submission within the worldwide function movie class.

Author-director Simón Mesa Soto stated: “Since its launch in Colombian theatres, A Poet has been superbly obtained by audiences. Many Colombians have seen it and have related with our poet. That’s what has excited us essentially the most. Now, understanding that we’ll signify Colombia on the highway to the Oscars is a large honour and the start of a journey that we hope will open a brand new chapter for Colombian cinema.”

A Poet stars first-time actor Ubeimar Rios within the darkly comedy story a few failed author who wanders the streets of Medellín in a drunken stupor till he sees the chance to mentor a younger scholar as his shot at redemption.
