The 2025 Venice Movie Pageant concludes this weekend, with the juries handing out awards Saturday night (CET) within the competitors, Orizzonti, and extra sections. Jim Jarmusch’s sparse triptych of household tales, “Father Mom Sister Brother” (MUBI), unexpectedly gained the Golden Lion over extra ostentatious competitors titles. “Oh shit,” a surprised Jarmusch stated upon taking the award onstage.
Volpi Cup appearing prizes went to Toni Servillo for Paolo Sorrentino’s opening evening competitors premiere “La Grazia” (MUBI) and Xin Zhilei for “The Solar Rises on Us All” (acquisitions title), directed by Cai Shangjun. “The Smashing Machine” filmmaker Benny Safdie gained the Finest Director prize for the A24 movie releasing within the U.S. in October.
