Whereas enjoying at Coachella final weekend, frontman Rivers Cuomo let it slip that the band was engaged on a “Weezer film again in L.A.” Whereas he stopped in need of divulging every other particulars, in accordance with a report from movie insider Jeff Sneider, the mission is “mockumentary” described as a cross between Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Bizarre: The Al Yankovic Story. And none apart from Keanu Reeves has reportedly been solid to play the villain within the movie.
Reeves and Weezer really go approach again: the band’s first-ever public gig was opening for Reeves’ personal group, Dogstar, in 1992. In 2024, the 2 bands reunited — this time with Dogstar opening for Weezer as they celebrated the thirtieth anniversary of The Blue Album. Apparently, Weezer and Reeves’ three-decade “rivalry” is a key a part of the movie’s plot.
Together with Reeves, the Weezer film will reportedly star Juliette Lewis, Eric Andre, Johnny Knoxville, and Ben Schwartz, along with the band members themselves. Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman are co-directing the movie, with David Leitch producing.
