The Critics Alternative Affiliation (CCA) unveiled the winners of the Ninth Annual Critics Alternative Documentary Awards at a gala occasion in New York Metropolis on Sunday evening. “Tremendous/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story” and “Will & Harper” shared the highest award of the night, because the movies tied for Greatest Documentary Function. It was an enormous evening for “Tremendous/Man,” which swept all six of its nominated classes, together with wins for Greatest Director for Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui, Greatest Enhancing for Otto Burnham, Greatest Rating for Ilan Eshkeri, Greatest Archival Documentary, and Greatest Biographical Documentary.
“The Final of the Sea Ladies,” “Simone Biles Rising,”and “Sugarcane” every took house two awards. “The Final of the Sea Ladies” received the awards for Greatest Cinematography for Iris Ng, Eunson Choo, and Justin Turkowski, and Greatest Science/Nature Documentary. “Simone Biles Rising” received Greatest Sports activities Documentary and Greatest Restricted Documentary Collection. “Sugarcane” picked up Greatest Political Documentary and Greatest True Crime Documentary.
Natalie Rae and Angela Patton received Greatest New Documentary Filmmaker(s) for his or her work on “Daughters.” “Steve! (Martin) A Documentary in 2 Items” received for Greatest Narration, written and carried out by Steve Martin. The trophy for Greatest Historic Documentary was awarded to “The Biggest Night time in Pop.” Greatest Music Documentary went to “Music by John Williams.” The award for Greatest Quick Documentary was introduced to “The Solely Lady within the Orchestra.” “30 for 30” took house the award for Greatest Ongoing Documentary Collection.
On the ceremony, the Pennebaker Award was introduced to acclaimed documentarian Rory Kennedy. The award is known as in honor of D.A. Pennebaker, a previous winner. It was introduced to Kennedy by Chris Hegedus, Pennebaker’s long-time collaborator and widow.
The occasion was hosted by actor and longtime-event supporter Erich Bergen. Presenters and attendees included Ron Howard, Chelsea Clinton with Amanda Zurawski, Jerry and Jessica Seinfeld, Jeremy Piven, Bridget Moynahan, Lorraine Toussaint, Michael Cyril Creighton, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Ali Wentworth, R.J. Cutler, Lauren Greenfield, Andrew Jarecki, Ken Leung, Chai Vasarhelyi, and Marc Shaiman, amongst many others.

The Critics Alternative Affiliation honors the yr’s best achievements in documentaries launched in theaters, on TV, and on main digital platforms, as decided by the voting of certified CCA members. The ninth annual awards ceremony was produced by Bob Bain Productions.

The Critics Alternative Documentary Awards are an offshoot of the Critics Alternative Awards, that are bestowed yearly by the CCA to honor the best in cinematic and tv achievement. Traditionally, the Critics Alternative Awards are essentially the most correct predictor of Academy Award nominations.
The thirtieth annual Critics Alternative Awards ceremony will probably be held on January 12, 2025 at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, CA, hosted by Chelsea Handler. It should air reside on E! and will probably be accessible the following day on Peacock.
